The Bard: A poem by Ali Hamid Khan

The man who never sang
though he knew the song
The bard has put down his mandolin
He has no lyrics in his head anymore
He is soporific now calmed by the ambience and dozes off slowly lulled by the silence around
He yearns for the idyllic days under the shade tree
When the sun shone hard and the hot breeze blew
This is the story of the weary traveller who is slowly resting his tired limbs under the spreading branches of the tree
He disappears slowly into the darkness unnoticed and forgotten
It is the twilight, time is never still
It moves on without a respite
Seasons change people change time is moving on
From attrition to entropy this is what it is all about
Youth makes way to frailty to old age and on to senility
Sometimes I wonder with a face having no expression what is it all about
Sun has risen winter is sidling away making way for summer
Birds are chirping trees growing new leaves flowers are blooming
and bees hovering around
A new day has begun with hope, energy and vivacity.
